Question Need some Input on where to go from here

Okay, heres the deal..

I have an STi with the mods in my signature and I don't really know where to go from here. I know eventually I want a bigger turbo and front mount intercooler and definitely want a Protune. The thing is: there are no Protuners out here on Oahu, Hawaii and also there is no AWD Dyno so I really can't do very much in the way of engine modifications. I am pretty sure I will be going to Fort Campbell, KY next August, but until then I'm kinda unable to do much in the way of power upgrades.

What do you all recommend I do in the mean time? Right now I am definitely happy with the car, but then there is a part of me that wants to go faster and have more power. I know you guys understand what I mean..Thanks for any opinions and ideas in advance

since tuning is not an option for you, suspension should be next. Pays HUGE dividends and it's all relatively easy to install

What would you guys recommend in the Suspension department? Pretty crazy to imagine the STi handling better but I know I will eventually need Suspension mods to run the power I eventually would like to.

Thanks again!

Check out some of the other threads on the forum from guys that have owned their Subies since 04. They tend to know what works and what does not especially given your concerns/constraints.

first we need to know your budget, as well as your priorities. are you looking for a combination of good handling and comfort, or just the best possible handling? do you want adjustability?

Boost Junkie,

I think I am looking for a combination of all three. As far as $$$ goes I am pretty comfortable but at the same time I can't just drop $3,000+ at a time.. not unless its on a Turbo Upgrade/FMIC/Headers/ProTune type of power package.

Maybe I should just hold off on any more mods until I get back to the mainland and start with a Protune and go from there. I seriously don't think I could be any happier with a car than I am with the STi, just an awesome piece of machinery..

But back to the thread, what kind of Suspension mods can I get for somewhere in the $1,000 ballpark? Is this possible or am I better off saving my money and spending a bit more but getting the best overall performance package?

Pinks and hats and maybe some sway bars would be the best choice it sounds like.

You could get some great power by going alcohol injection (SMC sells a kit for $499) and a protune. I'm really looking into this option myself (except with ECUTek) but I need to get some gauges first just to be safe.

Thanks guys, I have duty tonight but I will definitely start researching suspension mods tomorrow after I get off.

SVT Amateur,

Yea I have looked into Alc Injection but still wont make much sense right now because there is no where on the island that can dyno or ProTune..

IMO it's not really worth it to use alcohol injection on the stock turbo. basically, power (especially top end) will be limited either way because the turbo simply can't flow enough air and runs out of steam. that's not to say you won't gain some power, but it will make a much more perceptible difference on a larger turbo.

Yep I would probably get some Pink springs and top hats. Then you may be able to get some sways like someone said. That is probably all you are going to be able to get for 1000. You could also get some steering rack bushings but they dont do as much on 05's. It seems like some ppl notice a big difference and some dont on their 05's. For 30bucks though its worth it.

Anyway if you want someone to talk to and who knows his stuff, is very helpful and a nice guy....give Myles at Racecompengineering a call.

Thats where I just bought all my suspension parts from!
