I would say.........GT35R. The FP Red probably wont be able to keep up with the GT35R on a built motor.

if youre going to do a rotated mount, it's not just the turbo you need to consider, it's the entire kit including ic plumbing, unless you are going to fabricate your own.

if youre not closed to other alternatives, i'd like to recommend the element gt65 rotated kit, especially if youre thinking about hydra for em. element's turbo is not a bb turbo.

here's an interesting discussion about bb turbos. i found the oil pressure issues in the thread particularly relevant.
NASIOC - I think I'm done with ball bearing turbos...

im kind of leaning towards the gt35r, bruce i like the gt65, even more i like phils new kit the gt75 ooooweee thats a nice one. although the problem is those kits cost alot$$. i can buy a used gruppe-s gt30r kit we have two in the private classified section for $2100 i could sell the 30r, and bolt in a 35r. very cheap i think. phils kits are over 4k which is double what i could get a 35r kit for. the thing that is holding me back is pdx's fp red review it performed beautifully, so im considering both turbos. just looking for everybodys opinon. thanks

I would go with the FP Red simply because it spools ~500rpm quicker. A GT35R can get kind of laggy inbetween shifts so thats definitely a downer. Plus, the money you save by not going to a rotated kit can be put towards cams...which should bring you right up around a GT35R's power output. If I had to do my car from the start again I'd probably go with an FP Red or a 20g(spool up is underrated) and call it a day. With your setup, FP Red. Don't go with a GT35R unless you're gonna get the headwork/cams to push it. Always use the smallest turbo possible to accomplish your goals.

werd. you can only see the full potential of a 35r on race gas.

a used kit is a different story. just make sure it comes with ic plumbing to match your front mount. the devil is in the details. youre right about the custom up/dnpipe. you can just swap turbos any time you want.

sachin's comments about the spool-up of larger turbos are well taken IF staying in the usual rpm range for daily driving is important to you. otherwise, you simply learn to work with gear selection to keep you in the sweet spot. having said that, you will not lose power in the usual range with a larger turbo, you will still be gaining power. it's just that the big show just happens a little later....and it is a big show.

take a look at this threat over on nasioc that had dynos comparing a gt35r to an fpred
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ght=507whp+red

It shows the fpred spooling up significantly fster and producing signicicantly more power! Thats why the fpred is my choice when I upgrade.

i already mentioned the pdx link ive read all of it all before. the 35r was tuned real cheap, and it had very low boost. i know the 35r is capable of 600awhp on race fuel the red is only putting down around 500awhp. i will be running aquamist with the hydra and i want to get the most out of my shortblock. does anybody have idea what the fp red, and gt35r put down with alky? just to mention i will probably never use race fuel. spool up time isnt a huge concern i "kind of" like the lag of a huge turbo, caz it feels super gnarly when boost hits. i just want the most out of my block, i dont do any sort of racing. just my toy car.

TopSpeed recently tuned an STi with a gt35r on the stock block, 93 pump and meth 530whp, and 430whp on 93 pump. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...gt35r+topspeed

The gt35r also has the potential for over 600whp, probably more than the fpred. Here's a 616whp STi with a GT35r on a crawford S3L on C16 and methanol http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=879858

that was not my car. my car is at TopSpeed as we speak waiting for parts. It should be finished in the next week or 2. the gt35r is just a monster turbo, might be laggy but it's crazy up top.
