Search the archives. Thers's hundreds of posts on this topic.

Bottom line though is that a bov is pointless on an STI until you go FMIC or over 20PSI.
Aftermarket bov usually costs hp

No reason to get it, unless you need the ricey pfffffftttttttt.
Best idea for a low dollar upgrade that will actually make more power is a downpipe (it will eliminate the very restrictive Subaru cats) or some kind of ecu reflash or upgrade.

Oh yeah, both of these could affect wty.
If you need to preserve wty, there isn't much you can do. Other than cat back exh, which won't make any more power but will at least let you makethecar loud if thats whatyou're after.

I realize that you aren't looking to make the car faster for pffftttt.

But are you willing to make the car SLOWER?? Thats usually the result.

If you want to hear the turbo and the bypass valve in action, give the resonator box delete elbow.

Its a $60 piece of plastic (that looks like it should cost $3) that eliminates the resonator in the right front fender well. The resonator is really a silencer.

Do a search on resonator or intake silencer or elbow and you should come up with something.

absolutely, by venting to the atmosphere, necessary for the Pffftttt sound, you throw off the stock computer, which thinks all the air is being recirculated. As a result your air/fuel ratio is enriched to a point that decreases power.

So, yes, an atmospheric BOV can result in a loss of power. It doesn't always happen, but sometimes it does.

So . . do you want to spend $30,000 for a car, then pay another $300 for an accessory that maymake it SLOWER, and absolutely will NOT make it faster.

You're choice. Are you a ricer or not??

it probably wont do anything to power that you can feel. maybe 1 or 2 hp which is invisible to you.
i have had my sti for about 7 months now and i have had a bov for about 5 of those months. if you get the proper one it wont mess with your idle but some will make ur car idle like shiet and when you need to be gentle with the clutch sometimes you will stall. but the one i have had caused me no problems so far. occasionally i would back fire and spit out a flame. i also have the aps short ram which makes the car sound really cool. also i have a helix dp, apex n1 catback along with dyno tuning with the ecutek reflash. i am going to get a fmic very very soon, and i will need to sell my bov for the stock tmic. if you are interested let me know , it is a greddy bov made specifically for our subaru top mount intercoolers. it comes with all the necessary hardware and the recirculating hose (optional to install) if you install it, then it will be a recirculating bov if not then it will be 100% venting into the atmosophere. i really have no use for it after getting a fmic so i will sell it for 100 bucks plus shipping charges, brand new it goes for about 200 bucks. so if interested let me know

if youre gonna get a BOV...get a Greddy Type-S or HKS SSQV with the Recirc Kit

some have the Type-S recirc and have no problems whatsoever

I got the Greddy Type-S vented to the atmosphere. I got 25K till my warrantys up which then i'll be upgrading to a FMIC etc etc. For now, its fun listening to it and my air filter. Personally, i think my mods make me feel faster but that's just me. Tracks are closed and my best time is a 13.5 so gotta wait til april to get these

So, like I said in the beginning. At best, it won't cost you any power. So for $300, you've got a ricey pffttt that announces to the worlld that you have a turbocharged car, and may or may not work as well as the original one.

WhiteSTI has an intake and (effectively) a turbo back exh, plus ecu upgrade, two of which can hurt power without a software upgrade, but he's got that. So, provided the car was tuned right, he's in good shape.
