| Amateur STI Driver | well that sucks ![]() Why do the JDM STI's get the good motor, and we get the lower version? Even the JDM mitsu evo gets the same motor as the US SPEC evo(i think anyway)...Subaru is just being cheap...? Oh well, at least the rest of the world gets the shaft as well, everyone else gets the 2.5 except for Japan! Those magazine guys really know how to get you hyped! -mark |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | ^^ Well, probably because the 2.0l needs forged pistons to make the power it does stock. If Subaru can save money and use cast pistons instead then they will. The stock block is still able to be decently modded without having to worry about replacing pistons. While it would be nice to have forged pistons, I would have suspected that if that had happened that Subaru would have at least upped the performance specs. I mean the engine is only putting out a little more than last years STI. Hopefully in the next few years we will see a greater performance boost with the STI in terms of horsepower which will hopefully be accompanied by forged internals. Also remember that the grass always look greener on the other side. I know I read before where in Japan the 2.5l is in demand (of course they have to import it) because of the extra displacement and power it can make. If I was going to do a big turbo setup I'd much rather have the 2.5l which can be upgraded with forged internals than the 2.0l. |

| Professional STI Racer | We do pretty well with what we get here. I dont have any complaints. Also keep in mind, they need the 2 liter for homoligation purposes in WRC. |

| Amateur STI Driver | fair enough guys, i know we have it good, i was just excited to hear we had forged pistons, and then bummed when i found out that it didnt. There's no replacement for displacement anyways, so it could be much worse i guess! Does the stock mitsu evo 10 have forged pistons? -mark |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Sometime people are never happy, think of it this way would you pay another 2-3 K extra for a STI with forged pistons. And before you say forged pistons only cost X you have to look at warranty and able to last. Do you know that most people in Japan do not keep there cars longer than 3 yrs and they do not put the same mileage on there cars as we do. How many motors do know with over 100K on the clock. I my self put a 125K on a highly tuned 01 S4 in 7 years. The Last 2 years that I had that car I only put 20K on it most of it was on the track or going to tracks so freeway. Car companies are in that line for work to make money. What if you paid the same money for an 08 STI and got the car with forged pistons, but at 75-100K mile you needed a new motor would you still buy it. So they detune a motor so that it last longer hell I can get a 1.2 liter V8 bi turbo that makes 1200 HP and around 1800 TQ that would last for about 200 KM and at the time cost around 500,000 US Dollars. Subaru does a great job of giving you a high HP car 122HP per liter in stock mode that you should be able to put a 100K miles on it with out a problem this is one reason I made the switch from Audi to the new STI. People say the new STI/EVO cost to much will the next AWD car that would even come close is a S4 or S5 and they cost 55-60k. BTW the new 08 S4 is going to be a DI 3.4 Bi-turbo and it will have forged pistons and if Audi does it's normal thing you should be able to get about 188 HP per liter with mods so that would be around 600 HP or around 490 WHP. The engine will still be bullet proof, But it comes at a $$$$$$ the upgrades on the Engine I am guessing 8-9K. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
