Robert~

BTW... they have a stage 2 VF39 that they told me originally costed $1600... so cut me some slack.
the way you described it, it sounded to me like you were just getting a new wheel to put into our original stock turbo. I didn't realize this was for the ENTIRE turbo.

$800 for an entire upgraded turbo is a good price.

Did i catch you on a bad day or something? I didn't state my opinion in an attacking way.

Anyway..would it be possible for people to send in their stock turbo to be upgraded? If so, how much would this cost?
I apologize, I've had a 12 hour work day ... that should explain it for ya . Please forgive me, I dont mean to come off bad, but I sometimes do. I was just baffled as to how to make it any cheaper then $800... unfortunately, I dont know what price iwill be able to do. As for the actual service, I'd be looking at ~300-400 for the wheel swap AND new wastegate (no boost creep). I will be working something out like a swap plan (you send your VF39, I send you a stage 1 VF39) or something of that sort. Again I apologize for my text from before.

Yes... this is going to utilize the vf39 turbo, but that does NOT mean you will not need supporting mods. I would recommend Fuel Pump, Injectors, and tuning for the the big wheel and possibly just fuel pump and tuning for the smaller wheel (I will test and see what boost i can run without exceeding 100% IDC - Although I've been told they canrun higher).

After talking more with Jeremy, he said the smaller wheel would make 325whp-360whp easy with tuning and supporting mods. This, to ME, is phenominal for those of us who want a no hassle solution to that loss of top end power and limit of 300whp (as thats where the stock turbo starts to die). The bigger wheel will be approaching 400whp.

So in short... WHY would you buy this over something else (turbo wise)?

1) Actual Stock VF39 Turbo is used (allows for all bolt on parts that are useable with VF39 - Including Downpipes, intakes, inlet hoses, uppipes, etc - to be compatible) therefore allowing compatibility with all bolt on parts.
2) Stealth Look - Dont want a huge honkin turbo in your car? Keep the factory look, yet gain a TON of power. This will allow you to reuse stock heatshields and pass all visual tests performed on the turbo.
3) DIRECT Bolt on - Since this is the STOCK turbo, you will have ZERO problems bolting it in!
4) Resale Value - Rather then trying to resell a $1500 20G turbo or other turbo, you'd have a 350whp+ turbo, that you paid only $800-900 for!
5) EASY to install! No more grinding, fitting, heat problems, and other problems caused by using aftermarket turbos!

Thanks again everyone and again Mike I really am sorry, I never want to give a bad vibe to anyone on the board

Robert~

Definitely interested. Would love to see a AP tuning map once you get going. Is there a way to get an email list going so we can get updates when this project is ready for production? How much downtime would there be if we wanted our own turbo back?

These take ~2 weeks to perform (as Im making sure they triple balance these turbos and do everything 100% right). So I will start a mailing list for those who want to be kept in the loop! Just email me: staticx313@netzero.com and I will add you to the list! Im going to try and do 4 or 5 turbos at once (depending apon my result of course), but I will try to get EVERYONE taken care of that wants a turbo, rather then just sending one out... wait 2 weeks... send another out... wait... and so on. Dont worry guys, i'll figure something out. Now I gotta find a dyno thats closer then 4 hours away .

So, yes I'm very interested too...wonder if we'll need new injectors/ fuel pump. Possibly on the smaller wheel upgrade, but IMO definately on the bigger one.
You will definetly need upgrade injectors. IMHO the stock injectors isnt sufficient for the stock VF39. I am seeing over 90% duty cycle on my UTEC.

there is a great conversation over at nasioc about this. Basically the duty cycle is not reading correctly. When you see it at 90% it is probably really closer to 75 to 80%.

I do believe though that you will see some more lag that stock because of the bigger wheel.

Default Love my car ...but... question

Thats exactly right... some dyno sheets have shown IDCs of 110% or so and still had play room... Dont worry guys, I will of course check on my car how safe this setup will be on stock injectors. Although fuel pumps are plug and play... and $85 ... so just do that.

About lag... yes you will see more lag. (More surface area/material to be moved than before). Will it be significant? I doubt it. But again, I will keep everyone updated. Im making a database of emails that want to be kept in a "newsletter" type thing, so send me your email to: staticx313@netzero.com if you're interested! Thanks!

Robert~

edit - All previous customers who have purchased a StaticX grounding kit and provided an email address will get an email from me as we discover how this works out. My problem is going to be keeping up with the quantity demanded... I'll try to figure something out though.

I'm interested in an Stage 2 vf39 with the black hole flapper, ceramic coated and bigger wheel that's triple balanced....all for $1000 or less with my vf39 as a core.

How about it?

Im sure it will work... i just gotta get a plan together. Im ordering utec tomorrow. So I should have it mid next week. Then regroup funds and buy a used VF39. Send it out and let them get started on it. Pay off stage 1 vf39 turbo and get it back. Then im kinda scetchy on waht to do. Would you guys like to just see TURBO only power? Like ... UTEC + Stage 1 turbo... or see it with mods like turbo back and all this other stuff. Because probably after I test it out, im going to resell it and buy another vf39 and put a stage 2 wheel into it. Then do the same. Each time logging all the data and making sure everything is cool. I am scoping around for more companies to do this as well, as I am getting flooded with interest in this. Thanks everyone for your support. I will have something very soon for you guys!

wow. i'd definetly be interested in the stage 1 wheel. so is it going to be 800 for a new vf-39 with the swapped out wheel or is it 800 for just installing the bigger wheel. its a little late, im drunk so if i missed it im sorry.

Default DCAWD Meet 6/29/2004

lol its ok buddy... I plan on getting used VF39s (as new ones cost over $800 themselves... maybe high 700s if I can get a "deal" on them). Have them checked and tested (as we are only using the housings anyways and they have ball bearing cartridges) and replace the wheel and wastegate design. Additional services like Full polish/port (new wastegate design will eliminate boost creep, so this is NOT required) and ceramic coating will be available (although it may take longer for you to receive your turbo). This isnt a cheap ordeal, so im not just asking $800 for dropping a wheel in. You will have an extra full turbo. This is so that those who want to keep there stock turbos (like me) can. Those who just want the service... thats a different ordeal. I will work out a "core" system for that. I hope this helps

Robert, will this turbo be able to work with the stock ecu and a tbe?? I do plan to upgrade the ECU and injectors later, but for now can it wait? Im talking about the stage 2 turbo, and do of course mean with stock boost levels and fuel mapping.

Im sure the stage 1 will be ok... now adding ~100hp more capable turbo is NOT recommended on stock ecu and injectors. People bolt on 50hp in mods and seem to be ok, so I see no harm in using the stage 1 turbo with the stock ecu. I would get an a/f + egt setup or wideband or something as i dont know what IDC you will be running with that setup. Im kinda keeping all the info I have on hold until I try it out for myself. I sold my vf34 to fund this project so we should have the stage 1 in and dynoed very soon. Closest dyno is 4 hours away... so this will be a costly mod. (for me... as i will be testing stock... stage 1... and stage 2.. and I think its $75-100/hr ).

Robert~

ps- if you want to really run the stage 2 im sure you can run REALLY low boost, but you will need something to monitor everything...

psps- I plan on putting pics and updates on my site as I get them ... www.staticx313.com.
