Hey guys,

I had a pretty hectic weekend. My bad ass bro(Master Subie Tech) and I did a HUGE install on Saturday and had to clean up and detail for a car show on Sunday. Anyways, we installed the following onto my STi on Saturday:

-VF34 ported and thermal coated
-XXTuning header and uppipe(VERY tight fit at the 90 degree bend, trimming or bending of passenger side corner of front cross member required but WAY WORTH IT!)
-TurboXS turbo back exhaust with NEW FULL 3 inch RFL muffler and midpipe

*parts all courtesy of my boy Myles at RaceComp Engineering(holla!), thanks man!

*install courtesy of my bro, big ups to him!

*BIG THANKS to Jeremy(Invisiguard) for pioneering this set up!

Quick review THUS FAR of new set up(taking it easy on brand new VF34 for 300-500 miles): surprisingly better low end throttle and boost response, no boost creep observed, and car is wants to LEAP! Oh yah, and it's stupid loud too..

RCE money shot!

RadarOnPaws,

I WILL be using the UTEC once it comes out of back order. I can't even imagine what this thing would be like TUNED.

Nope, that's the whole point of the VF34 'upgrade'(albeit expensive in relation to other aftermarket turbos and their respected outputs). I was looking for a turbo that wouldn't require me to touch the stock fuel delivery system, and that would run safely. With the help of Invisiguard's(Jeremy) daring endeavor into the unknown, it turns out that the STi still runs on the rich side with the VF34 turbo. Rudy(JagCars26) can also testify to this as well being that he has also done this VF34 upgrade successfully.

As for performance differences,
I can tell you that the VF34(thermal coated and ported) combined with a GTspec header and 3" TBE spools very quickly...dare I say quicker than the stock VF39 on a stock engine. I'm tooling it around right now to get the brand new turbo slowly worn in, but from tapping the gas I can tell that I go through gears faster as boost builds a lot quicker this time around.

The UTEC will probably work wonders on my current setup, so the main struggle right now is having to get through the huge back order on them...so for now, I'm going to try to save up to cash in on some new wheels!

I'd be afraid to hammer on that thing too hard until you get it tuned. I'd definitely worry about that over wheels. Give PDX Tuning (www.pdxtuning.com) a try, they had a couple in stock last time I checked.

No prob bro.

RadarOnPaws,

Jeremy did a couple dyno pulls with the 34 on his STi on CA 91 octane(sucks here in CA) and each time it was running rich so I'm not TOO worried about flogging it once in a while. It'll run safely on stock components until the UTEC comes. Plus, I don't drive at WOT 24/7 or push it on the street constantly anyways. Rims are next still.

There is a huge thread on NASIOC talking about the VF34 on the STi.

It's so far proven to be safe....

Oh yah, boy DO I KNOW about that thread! That is what got me hooked on this turbo from the start. I bought that Cusco turbo heatshield from Myles at RaceComp Engineering...along with the zillion suspension and engine mods that are on the car.

Just to backup what Matt has said,,this setup runs VERY well without the additon of injectors, fuel pump etc. The STi runs pig rich so leaning out is not a problem.Myself and Jeremy have been on the dyno, the car runs rich.
Ive been running mine without mngt(stock ecu) fr over 2 months and the car runs fine. No cels etc. A utec or access will only improve the setup.
And to add,,this is NOT the turbo fr bigtime horsepower,,this is a great upgrade fr moderate goals.
So far it seems to be a safe, reliable(my car is a daily driver) almost bolt on mod that make fr some good improvement on an allready fast platform.

Thanks for chiming in Rudy! I'm sure you've cleared things up for people thinking about this turbo upgrade.

As Rudy said, this is not geared for people looking for HUGE power, but, rather an alternative for creating better spool time and mid to top end power without having to completely swap out factory fuel delivery components. Granted, it's not the best gain/$, but it does establish it's own category and it's own following from certain STi owners of the same power goals.
