| Junior STI Driver | My protuner says he does not alter the DA as this can be very dangerous... Does this mean my 07 will blow up eventuatlly. In otherwords, in order to make the 07's safe, does the DA need to be modified? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

| Junior STI Driver | My tuner (Hill from Agile Auto in Maryland) spoke to Christian and Christian supports his method of tuning the 07's... I am not a tuning person, so I do not know the different methodologies of tuning, but my tuner is one of the premier tuners in the mid atlantic, and he backs up all of his tunes and states his tune is safe. I guess there are several ways to prevent 07's from blowing up. |

The basic timing control systems have the authority to add in up to 5 degrees extra timing above and beyond what the tune would call for. That is one of the genesis (IMHO) of what is so wrong with the factory map once you get past the horrible stoich/full boost EPA parameters. So, in short, what is happening? The car under various atmospheric, and fuel quality conditions can attempt to add a portion or the full amount of that extra timing in. If there is detonation it pulls it out like normal. So, there is a constant vicious cycle of small little jabs at the top of the pistons, etc. That's a stock tune. Now, when you have a tune that is at 100% or even 95% of the limit for the octane, those extra 5 degrees of timing suddenly go from small jabs, to Tyson style upper cuts to your pistons. Myself, and other tuners seem to recognize the benefit in trying to establish a CONCRETE level of control on the vehicle. Other tuners want to understand and work with the wisdom of the Denso engineer (which is fine), and others have the opinion (myself included) that while the concept may have been in good faith, it's execution simply results in premature failure. Take that for what it is, an opinion, and form a decision you find best for you. Peace, |

Is that correct??? If so, I cant see how Subaru or Denso did that in good faith |

The factory system used this way (removing the extra timing) works just like the previous EM or a WRX. Standalone systems don't have this crap. Some have autotune, but they they say to use it once to get the tune coarsely dialed in, then fine tune it from there. Gabe |

| Junior STI Driver | Hey guys, after reading this, I feel skeptical if I should even go stage 2 with the OTS map. Should I lay off, and not go stage 2 and wait for updates? |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I am another tuner that fully supports the method of zeroing the timing advance A & B tables. I have found that this is the only way to gain consistent and clean power from the 07 ECU. I, much like Gabe, have logged both of my 07 STIs and seen how one pull can result in X timing and another result in Y timing. Nobody that I have met or heard of has been able to give 100% accurate information in regards to why the ECU does what it does. For what it's worth, a very well known tuner did my 07 with a GT35R and left these tables in place. Gotta love 30 degrees of timing at redline with 29psi on a 35R. Go ringlands! |

As far as I'm concerned, until some of the tuners find out under what circumstances these tables turn on, if you will, there is no reason to have them contain any values other than zero. | |
