IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2009 | i was looking at up pipe/ewg set ups and have two questions. I was looking at some of the kits like IAG, grimspeed and turbo xs, i feel like IAG would be the best because it is the only one without a flex joint, my friend has had multiple issues with the flex joint on his car (not a subaru) thats why the flex joint scares me. and also i hear for lower boost applications it is better to go with the 44mm vs the 38mm, i have the stock VF39, why is that now that the 38mm comes with the v-band why should i go 44mm vs 38mm, because the 44mm(with up pipe) is about 170 more than the 38mm. oh one more, why the need for a tune when going from a IWG to an EWG? |

the tune is the most important thing...the way the EWG works, the amount of air(exhaust) it flows, and the amount it needs to be open are vastly different without a tune damage is very likely to occur | |

| S204 Racer Feedback Score: 2 reviews | hey i gotta spread it out there : FS (SD) Synapse Engineering 50mm EWG with dump pipe , FS (SD) Ultimate Racing Up Pipe flanged for Tial 44mm or Synapse 50mm EWG .... beast of a set up . i just decided to stick internally gated. this will hold any boost or turbo you throw at it. plus it's different and reliable as all hell |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 | Alright guys, I have been thinking about this for a while and finally ordered one, a supertrapp muffler to install onto the end of the dump tube. See this thread on nabisco: Anyone put a silencer or small muffler on their EWG dump? - Page 4 - NASIOC Summit Racing, part #: SUP-344-1705. IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2009 | A quick comment - for those that would like the benefits of the EWG setup but not the noise, have no qualms about plumbing it back into the exhaust. What losses *IF ANY* are there, can easily be avoided by plumbing it into the exhaust farther back. Granted, space is limited in any setup, but rejoin it into the exhaust past the cat, far back. Another option is to not rejoin and use a motorcycle or lawnmower muffler on the EWG dump. As the article says, remember to get tuned for your EWG. The addition of a EBC will also help that stock turbo hit significantly harder with a EWG. |
