I'm seriously contemplating the COBB TBE + Accessport Combo which comprises their Stage 2 power package...

will this void my warranty, or will I have to do a "back to stock" swap-out prior to getting warranty work done? (i'm also assuming that I'll be one of the lucky ones who won't need a ported wastegate...)

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Subaru will void your warranty if anything happens. Suppose you break a drivetrain part after installing the mods. Subaru will claim the modifications caused the problem(more power than the part was meant to bear, blah, blah, blah) and they're not responsible.

Of course you could always take them to small claims court if you're willing.

Cheers

IIRC its against federal law to void any warranty for mods. The dealer has to provide proof that the mods caused the damage. Most dealers skip this and just say you're screwed.

On the other hand if you are willing to mod your car that much then you should be ready and willing to repair anything you break anyway. I'm probably going to do a stage 2 package as well and if I damage say the engine, transmission, axles, etc. I'm preparred to get them upgraded.

nothing can VOID the warranty.

the dealership or SOA can just REFUSE to honor due to whatever you do to it.

this is the most understood and confused thing.

the part you installed must lead or be the cause of the problem.

but lets say your radio goes out and they said you have an aftermarket exhaust, they better be a good liar to say they wont fix it. but if your turbo goes out, they can say your exhaust can or would have led to the failure of it.

kiss your the most significant power train part of your warranty goodbye, unless your service manager is your best friend. Sure they will probably fix your radio (if its stock) but forget about that 5K transmission job. I will also be doing the stage2 cobb in due time, however, for now I want my warranty intact.

or you can start with a stage 1, they can't see that and whenever your warranty expires, upgrade to stage 2. that's what i'm thinking about right now.

however, on the cobb website, i noticed that the closest dealer in my area seems to be my subaru santa cruz dealership ) i probably should get it somewhere else :-?

Jurgen, I agree with you that you should probably a get the AP somewhere else (I would). WRT the warranty issue, I have already ordered an AP unit from Washington and went with AP for the very reason that once you flash it, the dealer won't know (unless they have some high tech reading equipment, which I know for a fact my dealer doesn't even have). Also, you don't have to mess around unplugging and removing parts everytime you go in for service. It will be hard to resist stage 2 for too long...........

I agree, if you are willing to modd the car then you should be preparred for the worst that can happen. I currently have all the bolt on exhaust parts and my dealer thinks it is the coolest Forester that they have ever seen. But I can not take it in for much more than an oil change at this point. So, the utec or something along those lines is next as well as a larger turbo. Good luck. If you run a stage one you will not be waiting too long for the stage II. The bug will get you and so goes the story!
