Default Re: '08 STi - CODE P0244 - Overboost

Boost creep is a mechanical issue and not something that an ECU reset is going to fix. The wastegate simply can't evacuate enough exhaust, so the turbine keeps spinning faster, and faster (i.e. producing more boost.) My understanding is that this can occur due to colder air temps and possibly denser air at lower elevations; for instance, you might be fine during the middle of the summer but come winter the problem presents itself.

Also, just because there is an overboost fuel cut safety feature, doesn't mean you don't have to worry about boost creep. If you're overboosting, you've got to worry about running out of injector and/or knock events. If you are going to continue running your car with the potential for overboosting, I would highly recommend you datalog to see how your car is managing when it happens.

The only real options you have are:

- porting the wastegate, though that is not always the best solution

- changing the restrictor pill / adjusting the tune (Protune) to have the wastegate open sooner, though this won't always solve the problem because you are still mechanically limited to how much air can get out the wastegate.

- go to a divorced wastegate downpipe setup which has a dedicated pipe for the wastegate gases. I had a divorced setup and had no issues with boost creep, even in our cold, cold winters and 1 high-flow cat. I did have boost spikes, but that is a different issue related to the tune (which were solved with a retune.)

One last thing you might want to check is that the wastegate isn't blocked and not able to open fully. Some people have had that problem with aftermarket downpipes though it is very rare.

Just my two cents.
