So, like I posted above, I finally picked up my ARC CF reverse scoop that I had painted SWP to match my car. I picked it up the same day I had to go out of town, so I finally had time to put it on yesterday. The weather wasn't too bad today so I got the car washed up and snapped some pics.
Like I posted way before that, I also bought and installed RCE Yellow (V2) springs, Ohlins FPS, Whiteline camber plates (front) and Group-N rear strut top mounts. I've had those on my car for a few weeks now and they're unbelievably good.
Here's a review that I wrote, copy/pasted: Quote:
My honest opinion, after having had various suspension setups on various different cars, is to keep it simple. I f’ed up, IMO, going with the BC Racing coilovers as my first spring/strut upgrade on my daily driven STI. The problem is, I don’t compete on a racetrack every single weekend. So why should I have coilovers that need to be corner balanced, that have 50 million different adjustability settings (height, preload, compression, rebound), and so many different spring rate options? I really don’t.
So when I finally came to my senses, I realized that I wanted something that would be unbelievable on the track, but would also give me good street comfort, performance, and quality. I doubt that there is any coilover out there that is going to be as quiet and as smooth riding (on my roads) as Ohlins fixed perch struts.
With all that said, I am simply thrilled with the Ohlins and RCE’s. The ride is as stiff (if I want), but the way it handles and absorbs bumps is so much better than the BC’s. The jarring after hitting any sort of bump is gone – yeah it’s stiff, but at least now when I hit a bump, it’s absorbed and the car settles instantly. The BC's did that too, but there was so much more drama in hitting a bump. I'd get launched, my passengers would get launched, there'd be a huge metal on metal bang... sounds like fun, right?
Also, the ride height is perfect all around – that was another huge factor. I really didn’t want to be messing with ride height for every season (track and winter). Also, ask any coilover owner how fun it is to raise or lower your car after a winter. The locking collars usually seize, and it's a total ***** trying to get them to move. Now, at RCE’s spring height, I’m already at the optimal STI suspension height and geometry automatically. On top of that, the springs are pretty wicked, I’m not going to lie lol.
So, my car is primarily daily driven, it's winter driven, and I hit about 8 +/- track days throughout the summer – with that said I definitely recommend the Ohlins fixed perch/spring combo. Leave the spring rate question to the boys at RCE or Prodrive (although, Prodrive’s RB320 setup may be too street oriented). They’re the ones that did all the research and testing, so they should have a pretty good idea with what works best. IMO, after living with coilovers for a year, I think the loud, rough, stiff, choppy ride gets old fast.
But then again, if my car eventually goes full time track car, coilovers will be on it, no questions asked
There ya go… that’s my long winded opinion lol
