I overheard an insurance agent say that there is some relationship between my credit score and the cost of insurance...can you explain how my credit score might influence my insurance premium and why insurance companies look at the score?

This could be true depending on the state. Technically, in California, they’re not allowed to do this. The theory is that people with bad credit (bankruptcies etc etc) could be more prone to having claims and not paying premiums.
